Yahoo email users can attach files up to 25 MB in size. Both platforms have a lot in common when organizing emails like marking messages as important and sorting your inbox. Yahoo relies on different folders as a way to organize your different emails. You are more limited to filtering emails by manually sending them to a specific folder in Yahoo Mail. While in Gmail, they rely on labels rather than exclusively sending emails into a folder.

The filters in Gmail are more robust and automatically filters those that are important. Yahoo Mail app and Gmail app has a similar layout. They both have their various folders available by swiping in from the left and emails are easily found using their search bar. In Yahoo Mail, you can change the background theme — a feature absent in the Gmail app. In the Gmail app, it offers quick replies which are convenient when responding to messages.

Therefore, when it comes to the Yahoo vs Gmail apps — Both are similar in terms of design and they are responsive, offer similar features, and are simple to use. Ads on Yahoo Mail are mostly images and often appear on a vertical banner ad on the right side of your screen, along with small sponsored ads below the folders on your left side.

While Gmail has ads in forms of text, sponsored or not. It has two small ads located just above the email list pane and occupies only a single line of space.

As you would expect, both Yahoo Mail and Gmail come with their fair share of interesting features. Users of Yahoo Mail can create filters that categorize incoming emails based on criteria such as sender, recipient, subject, or email body. When Yahoo detects these filtered mails, the service will automatically move them to a folder. This is definitely useful, but Gmail takes filtering to another level.

You can filter with all the options available on Yahoo, but also filter for attachments, file sizes, and chat conversations. This is another area where Gmail excels. When using the client, you can generate and edit color-coded labels and tags to allow incoming emails to be categorized under specific titles. For example, emails can be tagged with Work, Personal, Blogs, or other choices.

Sitting alongside automatic inboxes, this makes Gmail the go-to email service if organization is a primary need.

As you probably expect, both services are available through their own applications on iOS and Android for free. Both apps offer the same feature set you would get on the full desktop experience, while both are fully optimized for the small screen size.

Both Gmail and Yahoo Mail offer lots of options for how to customize your layout. You can align your messages differently, change the spacing of your inbox, and even use different colors and levels of brightness to make your screen more visible. The mobile apps are also designed somewhat similarly.

Each app offers emails from your inbox and other folders in an easily digestible, easy-to-finger-tap format. By default, both platforms have a lot in common. You can mark messages as important, or mark them with a star to distinguish them further.

You can sort your inbox and search for messages. You can mark messages as spam, delete them, or archive them. You can even mark messages as read or unread.

But from there, the platforms diverge. For starters, each platform has a different system for managing different types of emails high-level. You can change which of these categories appear and how they work in the Settings menu. Yahoo will automatically detect which messages belong in these categories, and display them all at once.

Both functions are similar, but may be more or less useful depending on how you wish to use them. By default, Yahoo Mail functions with the folder system you might recognize from Outlook. Each folder contains individual emails as a kind of separate inbox, allowing you to stay organized.
